Human Capital? Don’t You Mean Human Resources?
Good question. Both Human Capital (HC) and Human Resources (HR) have to do with people. Human Resources efforts are typically geared toward organizational efficiency (e.g., managing payroll, administering healthcare and other benefits, overseeing training programs, and ensuring compliance). By contrast, Human Capital efforts view team members as assets that a business can develop and optimize to attain tangible, strategic value.
Think of it this way: Human resources are the pool of available human skills, knowledge and expertise that a business access and develop, as required. Those resources become human capital as their skills, training, experience, education, knowledge, know-how, and competencies deliver measurable value to the business.
Chris has been great to work with! She serves as an exceptional coach for many in our organization and is able to connect with professionals at all levels. Chris helped us build a professional development program to train our future leaders, utilizing her own training background as well as behavioral assessment tools to design an effective, yet flexible, program to fit our firm. Her dynamic conversations make every meeting an engaging and productive experience.
